AUDITION NOTICE

For the Whim Productions announces open auditions for “Sweat” by Lynn Nottage.

Director April Johnson and Assistant Director Rachel Sneed are seeking a diverse cast of nine (9) adults. People ages 18 and up of all genders, races, and abilities are encouraged to audition.

Portrayed genders and age ranges are suggested for roles as described under the “Roles/Character Descriptions” link under the “Preparation” section of this post. Please note that some characters have race requirements per the playwright.


ABOUT THE PLAY

“Filled with warm humor and tremendous heart, SWEAT tells the story of a group of friends who have spent their lives sharing drinks, secrets, and laughs while working together on the factory floor. But when layoffs and picket lines begin to chip away at their trust, the friends find themselves pitted against each other in a heart-wrenching fight to stay afloat.” – Dramatists Play Service

For the Whim Productions is an all-volunteer, community theatre organization.


WHERE & WHEN

Auditions will take place August 6 & 7 at the Hopeloft (40 E. Commerce St.) in Bridgeton, NJ.

Doors open at 6:30 PM, and auditions begin promptly at 7:00 PM.

Rehearsals will take place in Millville, NJ on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday nights (subject to adjustment based on cast conflicts).


TECH WEEK & PERFORMANCE DATES

• Tech Week: October 29-November 2, 2023
• Performances: November 3-5, 2023

PLEASE NOTE: Individuals cast in the production agree to be available for ALL listed tech & performance dates.


PREPARATION

Please come to auditions prepared. Auditions will consist of monologues followed by group readings from sides. Memorization is neither necessary nor preferred. Please click the “Audition Monologues” button below to select your monologue(s) in advance of the audition. Hard copies will be available for cold readings. You may be asked to read for other characters during the audition.

In addition to reviewing the Character Descriptions below, you must also complete both the Audition Form and the Disclosure Form. All required materials are linked below.


ACCENTS & CHARACTERIZATION

There are no accent requirements for this production. “All of the characters were born in Berks County, Pennsylvania” – Lynn Nottage
